Life Science Startups Receive Support for Expansion

Four District companies SkinFix, IR Scientific, Motryx and Nxtgen Care will receive a total of nearly $1.75 million in loans from the federal government. The funding, from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), is aimed at supporting the companies commercialize their healthcare solutions and ultimately attract new investments to the growing life science sector.

Former Volta Cohort member, Milk Moovement, will receive a $100K investment and join the Thrive accelerator in Silicon Valley. The agriculture tech startup supports farmers, dairy boards and other organizations with real-time reports about the quality and volume of milk production.

Nova Scotia Health Authority Partners to Leverage Medtech

The Nova Scotia Health Authority announced last week it will hold five pitch competitions focused on provincial health care priorities. In partnership with Volta, BioNova, QEII Foundation, and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, the program will further drive innovation in medtech. The first pitch competition will take place on April 8.

National AquaHacking Challenge Launches in Halifax

The AquaHacking Challenge, a national competition where students solve water issues, has landed in the Halifax Innovation District. Participating students will be mentored by developers, designers, scientists, engineers etc., and access resources to develop their solutions. The top five teams will also be awarded with a total of $50,000.
