COVID-19 Test Results Drive Sona Valuation
Sona Nanotech, a Halifax-based technology company, doubled their share price on the Canadian Stock Exchange after their COVID-19 rapid testing kit showed 96% sensitivity to the virus. The share price surge led to an increase in the company’s market value to $374 million. Unlike other test kits Sona’s technology can detect SARS-CoV-2 in about 15 minutes and is expected to sell for less than $50 once the company receives large orders.
Meet Bloxo: The Virtual Sports Organizers
District startup, Bloxo, was born out of the need for founder Mubdu Alali to connect to his community through sports and physical activity. The platform, which facilitates organizing sports outside of official leagues, won the Startup Spotlight Award, the APEX Business plan competition and Volta’s Cohort Pitch Event. Recently, Bloxo pivoted their platform to offer virtual services like yoga classes and meditation due to the closure of organized sporting activities as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
