SMU hosts Research Expo
Last week, Saint Mary’s University opened it doors to showcase research from the faculties of Science and the Sobey School of Business and Arts. With over 35 exhibits, the event gave individuals and external organizations an opportunity to learn about the impactful research happening at Saint Mary's University.
Dalhousie Receives Funds to Study COVID-19
Three researchers from Dalhousie University received a total of $1.9 million from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. The funds will be dedicated to studying new diagnostic tools for early case detection and surveillance; the socio-cultural implications of COVID-19; and the effects of public health outbreak control policies.
Energy Startup Closes 1.7M Round
Green energy startup, Jaza landed $1.7 million in a recent round of seed funding. The Halifax company will use the funds to install additional green energy stations in Tanzania. “We’ve been growing by 30 percent monthly compounded over the last six months in terms of revenue.” said CEO and Co-Founder Jeff Schnurr.
Metamaterial Begins Public Trading
This week, smart materials and photonics company, Metamaterial Inc., announced their plans to list on the Canadian Stock Exchange. The news comes after a recent merger with Continental Precious Minerals Inc. The company produces metamaterials that alter light such as metaAIR, an aviation protection eyewear.
Digital Advocate Wins Rising Star Award
Eilidh Lindsay-Sinclair, Founder of Digital Skills for Women and the Director of Marketing at Cloud Kettle won the Rising Star Leadership Excellence Award from Women in Communications Technology. “I didn’t take a traditional path to a career in technology. As a result, I see and have felt some of the barriers women face when working in male-dominated sectors,” she said in a statement. Conrgatulations Eilidh!
