Local Startup to Transform Bio-Garmentry With New Invention
Halifax-based Clean Valley Bio-Filtration Technologies CIC is collaborating with bio industry partners to create an innovative filter for bio-masks which is expected to be cost-effective, nature-inspired, and non-toxic, making them sustainable and efficient. Their solution will support the fight against the current pandemic as well as other diseases. “Our goal would be to create an antivirus solution, a liquid biofilm that could be applied to any form of PPE here. That would be our end goal because it would be very versatile, it'd be easy to apply, be easy to transport.” said Clean Valley founder Nicholas LaValle
Co-Working Spaces Reopen to Startups
Last week, Atlantic Canada’s leading innovation hub, Volta resumed operations to allow paying members access their shared working space for the first time since COVID-19. Workspace Atlantic which operates three co-working spaces in the district is also confident that with the health measures local shared spaces have put in place, numbers will pick back up. “We’re very confident that we can do this in a safe way that ensures not only our staff, but the broader network community is able to interact in a way that is so important but also a way that is safe,” Volta interim CEO Martha Casey
vLife Promotes Local Buying
After offering free services since January, local social enterprise startup vLife which supports users find small businesses has rolled out their paid version. Their mobile-friendly website is designed to give marketing services to help small businesses reach their target customers. “Because we have a growing number of ‘buy local’ and ‘experience local’ followers, you’re going to get a more engaged lead than you would typically on a Facebook ad, for example,” said Co-Founder Melanie Little.
